He went to Atlanta at the age of 16 to work and attend school. When WWII broke out, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the European Theater until the war's end. Mr. Connell and his family lived in Atlanta, Clearwater, and most recently in Tryon and Highlands, NC.

Mr. Connell and his wife are members of the Tryon Presbyterian Church and affiliate members of the Highlands Presbyterian Church. He believed strongly in community and church service and served on the boards of -the Tryon Fine Arts Center, Hospital Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Hospice, Tryon Presbyterian Church and the Tryon Community Foundation. His love of life, devotion to God and country, quick smile and open heart will be missed by all who loved him. Dr. Jowdy was born March 31, 1922 in New Bern, North Carolina, the late Albert W.

Jowdy, Sr. and Genevieve Fysal Jowdy. He was graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1943. Following service in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during the Second World War, he returned to the University of North Carolina where he received the M.S.

and Ph.D and taught for ten years in the UNC School of Pharmacy. In 1966 he joined the faculty of the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy and in 1968 became Head of the Department of Pharmacy Care Administration and Director of Pharmaceutical Services. Following retirement in 1985, Dr. Jowdy returned to the College of Pharmacy as Development Coordinator. Dr.

Jowdy was elected Fellow of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1975, and served as chairman of the Academy's Economic, Social and Administrative Sciences Section. He was chairman of the Teachers' Seminar and the Council of Faculties of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. In 1980, he received the University of Georgia Public Service Award from Mercer University for outstanding personal and professional contributions to the practice of pharmacy in Georgia. 12 College of Pharmacy graduating classes invited Dr. Jowdy to speak at their commencement exercises.

Proceeds from the annual AI Jowdy Golf Classic benefit the Albert W. Jowdy Scholarship, established by the University in 1988 in his honor. Dr. Jowdy is survived by his wife of 45 years, Millicent McKendry Jowdy, two sons, Albert W. Jowdy of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Jeffrey W.
